My Story

My name is Erik Brooks, and I want to help you tell your story, together.

Here is a little of mine.

My first love is family, and I am blessed to be married to Sarah for more than 20 years. We have two children and have proudly called the City of South Milwaukee home since 2003.

I have a number of professional passions.

I have spent more than 25 years as a communications professional, starting as a sports, news and business journalist and editor for several media outlets, covering everything from local meetings and small business grand openings to NCAA Tournament basketball games and Major League Baseball and the NBA.

I joined Miller Brewing Co. in 2007 and spent the next 12+ years there and at MillerCoors telling its story to a variety of audiences in a variety of ways — all rooted in strategy and all focused on delivering clear, compelling and impactful content to the right people at the right time and on the right platform.

I entered politics in 2009, first as an alderman, then as mayor of the City of South Milwaukee starting in 2014. Both are very part-time jobs, on paper, but the experience I’ve gained in leading a city has been invaluable in my professional life. I was re-elected mayor in 2017 and again in 2020, driving a platform of economic and downtown development, Oak Creek watershed restoration, investments in vital city services, improved government efficiency and, of course, enhanced communications. I am proud to say we are delivering on those promises every day.

I made another longtime dream a reality in January of 2020, when I launched Brooks Communications — put my skills to work in the world.

A year later, I fulfilled yet another dream — starting my own youth basketball program. I launched South Shore Crush in early 2021, and it’s been a joy to help young people grow as individuals, both on and (especially) off the court, through coaching.
